This Learning Object used the basic functions on the iPad along with some apps to develop basic numeracy skills.
From the Homescreen page of your iPad, touch your finger to the screen and drag down to reveal the Spotlight search field.
Type the word clock and click on the clock to open it.
The clock is divided into four parts:
The World Clock
Alarm
Stopwatch
Timer
The World Clock lets you display the time in numerous cities around the world.
When the clock face is dark, it is night-time in that city. When the clock face is white, it is daytime.
To add a city:
Tap the + sign in the middle of the clock in the upper right hand corner of the screen, then use the virtual keyboard to start typing a city name.
You can create clocks for many cities but only six cities at a time appear onscreen.
( Note; IF you cannot see the + sign there are more than six clocks on display, scroll from the left.)
To remove a city:
Tap Edit on the top ;eft hand side of the screen and then tap the red circle that appears to the left hand of the city you want to delete. Then tap Delete.
To rearrange the order of the cities:
Tap Edit, then press your finger against the symbol with three horizontal lines to the right of the city you want to move up or down the list.Drag the city to a new place on the list.
To set the alarm:
Tap the Alarm icon at the bottom of the screen.
Tap the + button in the top right hand corner.
Choose the time of the alarm by rotating the wheel until you see the desired time in hours and minutes.
Tap Save.
Set the alarm to go off on specific days:
Tap Repeat and choose the days you want the alarm to be repeated.
Choose the alarm sound:
Tap Sound and chose your desired tone.
Set the snooze:
Tap Snooze button on. (green).
Note: You can also ask Siri to set the alarm for you.
The stopwatch can be used to time a runner when training or running a race.
Tap the stopwatch in the bottom of the screen.
Tap Start and the count begins. Tap Stop when completed.
You can also tap the Lap button to monitor the times of individual laps.
The timer is ideal for timing tasks such as boiling an egg or completing a task in class within a limited time.
Tap Timer in the bottom of the screen.
Rotate the hour and minute timer until the chosen length of time is displayed on the screen.
Tap the SOUNDS button to choose the ringtone that will signify when the time is up.
Tap Start when you are ready to begin.
You can watch the time wind down of the screen as the red circle goes around.
You may also continue to work on the iPad and when time is completed the alarm will ring. A message will appear saying Timer Done. Click OK.
Note: It is also possible to Pause the timer during an activity by clicking Pause.
The Calendar lets you create and edit appointments, share agendas, invite friends and colleagues to events and get alerts.
Use the Spotlight search to open find and open the Calendar on the iPad.
Tap on the + sign in the top right hand corner.
Enter a title, date and time of your event.
Choose if you want the event to be an all day event.
Turn this option off if your event has a specific time.
If the event repeats you can customise it to do so.
Tap Repeat.
Choose how often you want the event to repeat.
Choose Alert if you would like to be notified of an event.
Tap ADD in the top right hand corner to save your entry.
This is a great feature on the iPad where participants become accustomed to reading all features of the weather such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, pressure and visibility.
To access this feature slide from the top of the iPad screen down with one finger then click on weather.
